A Great Weekend for the Swim Team

The varsity swim team poses for a picture after their meet on 12/11/2022 at Wittenberg.

First of all we had a large group of girls swim their first high school races ever. Congrats to Lidia, Abby C., Amelia, Kadi and Abigail A. - getting to the blocks is the first step every swimmer needs to take in their swimming career!

At Trotwood we saw PR's (personal records) from Caitlyn (-3.17) in the 100 free, Matt (-.61), Ian (-2.01)  and Abigail (-3.48) in the 50 fly, Ian (-6.62) in the 100 back, and the biggest PR of the day was Addison (-8.81) in the 50 fly! Cody also had a nice drop (-1.77) in the 100 IM and (-2.65) in the 50 back and placed 6th and 5th respectively. Matt scored a point finishing 16th in the 100 free. Also, the girls' 200 free relay of Anna, Lidia, Addison and Caitlyn placed 16th. Scoring at this meet was a pretty impressive task given that they combined times from the morning and afternoon sessions which contained a total of 32 teams! So Cody was 5th out of 66 swimmers in the 50 back, and that girls' relay was 16th out of 56 teams!

At the Springfield meet the next day our HS swimmers continued to drop time. Amelia, Anna and Lidia all had splits faster than they  swam the day before. We saw PR's from Cody (-.38) in the 200 free, Amelia (-3.57) in the 50 back, Lidia (-.40) and Dayna (-.20) in the 50 free, and Addison was again the day's biggest loser with an over 10 second drop in her 100 yard butterfly!!! We also witnessed an exciting race from Anna as she dropped nearly 10 seconds off her season's best in the 200 free and scored the win!

There were also changes to our Top 10 lists. For those who are new, we keep a top 10 list of times at Greenon since 2000. This weekend Cody leapfrogged Matt to take over the #3 spot in the 50 back and Cody moved from 10th all the way up to #5 on the 200 free list! Matt then leapfrogged Cody to take over the #5 spot on the 50 fly list and Ian moved up a spot to #8. Cody also improved his time at #4 on the 100 IM list. On the girls' lists Addison is rewriting the fly as she entered the 50 fly list at #8 and moved from #9 to #7 on the 100 fly list (bumping former coach Sara Nolan a spot :). Whew!

Before I sign off I also want to recognize Emmie who is finishing up her club racing before joining us next weekend. She had a great weekend at her meet as well, setting multiple PR's and making finals in 2 events!

We are looking forward to having our full team at County next Saturday and to getting the junior high out there at Trotwood for their first meet of the year!

Go Knights!
